DEPUTY PROGRAM DIRECTOR, Maternal Neonatal Health (MNH)
BALTIMORE, MD


RESPONSIBILITIES
· Support the MNH Program Director and serve on the MNH Management Team.
· Together with the Program Director and Senior Program Manager, and based on input from the technical team, is responsible for the efficient and effective technical operations of the MNH Program.
· Provide technical leadership in the design, analysis, monitoring and evaluation of maternal/neonatal health programs globally.
· Present state-of-the-art scientific briefs and discussions to international colleagues on topics relevant to maternal/neonatal health. Work with the program team to identify best practices and technical topics for dissemination to a global audience.
· Work with the policymakers, senior government officials and political leaders in limited resource countries to promote awareness and build political support for maternal/neonatal health programs.
· Work with a broad spectrum of agencies, including multilateral and bilateral institutions and the private sector, to build support for maternal/neonatal health programs.
· Oversee the development and production (and contributes to the writing as appropriate) of key reports to USAID including: the annual workplan and necessary financial, country and activity reports.
· Serve as a member of technical working groups and task forces within USAID, JHPIEGO or other agencies in a liaison role as appropriate.

DESIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Demonstrated experience in maternal/neonatal health and safe motherhood with at least five years senior level experience in program development design and management.
Demonstrated expertise in working directly with host-country senior government officials and policymakers in maternal/neonatal health.
Strong communication and management skills, ability to write state-of-the-art technical documents and make high caliber technical presentations.
An advanced degree in public health or a related profession experience, and the ability to provide expert support to country offices and missions.
Fluent in at least one language in addition to English.

Travel Requirements: Up to 30% international travel
