Columbia University Award for Midwives and their Associations

SELECTION CRITERIA

The association should nominate a midwife who will submit a proposal for a three-year programme on any one of the areas suggested below:

  1. Vision and strategy development
  2. Leadership development
  3. Advocacy
  4. Any other area deemed important which would strengthen the activities and effectiveness of the midwives' association

Once the awardee has been selected, the Confederation will

  1. Provide guidelines on the further development and finalisation of the proposal as necessary.
  2. Identify specialists/consultants who can offer support and advice (electronically or otherwise)
  3. Follow up the activity by receiving reports yearly (and use these to offer guidance and support to other associations and to collate experiences).
  4. Receive a final report of the activity. These reports will be used to learn from the in-country experiences and will help the Confederation to develop tools for supporting and strengthening midwives' associations in different parts of the world.

Characteristics of the proposal

The proposal should include, among other aspects, a clear description of the:

  1. purpose
  2. who will benefit
  3. objectives
  4. how and with whom the project will be carried out
  5. expected outcome(s)
  6. monitoring procedures
  7. evaluation criteria
  8. ways of continuing the process after the award money has been exhausted.
