The role of an ICM representative at International meetings

Due to the international remit of the ICM, it is often requested to represent midwifery at international meetings. As the Board of Management and ICM staff are unable to cover all those meetings, official ICM representatives have been appointed by the International council. To secure clear understanding of what is expected when attending meetings on behalf of ICM, the following describes the role of an official ICM representative:

The representative

  1. will speak confidently and articulately on behalf of midwives and midwifery
  2. will be prepared to present papers if asked
  3. will communicate with the Secretary General if issues arise during the meeting that she/he does not feel capable to respond to adequately
  4. will be open and communicative with all participants and conscious of the fact that she/he is representing a wide variety of midwives and midwifery.
  5. will have the capacity to supply a full written report within 30 days of the conclusion of the meeting, clearly identifying

-          interventions made on behalf of the Confederation,

-          significant outcomes of the meeting

-          actions that need to be followed-up

-          recommendations to be made to the Board of Management on the topic of the meeting

-          information on activities, projects or persons learnt about during the meeting that would be of interest to ICM.
